LCCC’s All-American goalkeeper commits to Columbia College

Monday, February 24, 2014
After two successful years as a Golden Eagle, Daniel Ainsworth will finish his student-athlete years as a Columbia Cougar

Daniel Ainsworth, Laramie County Community College men’s soccer sophomore All-American, has committed and signed with Columbia College of Missouri.

A 6’6 goalkeeper originally from Salt Lake City, Utah, Ainsworth was a 2013 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) second team All-American.

“I’m very excited about my future at Columbia,” he said. “It has everything that I’m looking for —my major, the small town atmosphere, a strong nationally recognized program with a great group of guys and coaching staff.”

Ainsworth will study actuarial science at the private liberal arts college which is affiliated with the NAIA in athletics. The team started the year ranked nationally in the top 15 and finished 11-6-3 last fall.

At LCCC, Ainsworth posted a 25-1-2 career record through two seasons. Out of those 28 games, he posted 17 shutouts and 118 saves for a career 0.62 goals allowed per game. As a freshman at LCCC, he was an honorable mention goalkeeper for Region IX. As a sophomore he was a first team goalkeeper for Region IX, first team NSCAA continental tire All-West region team, and a NSCAA second team All-American.

“Ainsworth is going to be tough to replace. Columbia is getting a superb student-athlete on the field and in the classroom,” said Vince Gibson, LCCC’s men’s soccer coach.

John Klein, Ainsworth’s coach at Columbia, was highly pleased to nab this talented recruit.

“Daniel impressed our staff not only with his strength in the air, but also his ability to protect the lower half of the goal.  We like his commitment to protecting the goal at all costs.

“He will fit in well at Columbia,” Klein said.

Ainsworth will graduate from LCCC this May with a degree in mathematics.
