The Laramie County Community College women’s soccer team
played Northwest College in Powell on Sept. 16 in the first meeting between the two Region IX teams. Golden Eagle Shino Kunisawa opened up the scoring for LCCC in the 16th minute, assisted by Emi Yamamoto. In the 36th minute, Brittany DeMartin scored off a corner kick, assisted by Yamamoto. The halftime score was 2-0.
The second half was completely controlled by the Golden Eagles, who had 12 second-half shots on goal but couldn’t find the net. Freshman midfielder Junko Honda was ready to open up the flood gates. In a nine-minute span, Honda scored three goals: in the 80th she was unassisted; she was assisted by Yamamoto in the 83rd; and in the 89th minute of play, she was assisted from Cori Mizel. The women’s soccer team (4-2 overall, 3-0 Region IX) travel to Scottsbluff, Neb., on Sept. 22 to play Western Wyoming Community College. All Golden Eagle athletic events are free.
