The 17th-ranked Laramie County Community College men’s soccer team
defeated the North Idaho College Cardinals 1-0 on Oct. 14 at LCCC and Westminster JV 3-0 on Oct. 16.
The 1-0 score doesn’t reflect how the Golden Eagles, who were called with numerous penalties, dominated much of the game. In the 10th minute of play, LCCC’s Luis Gonzales passed the ball to Spencer Gray, who dribbled through the Cardinal defense and scored, the lone goal of the game. Though LCCC put the ball in the net two more times, they were called off sides. Later in the second half, LCCC’s Peterson Neri was fouled and awarded a penalty kick. Neri made the kick, but the officials called the goal off because a supposed LCCC player was over the line before the ball was kicked. Another attempt should have been awarded, but officials did not allow it.
Shortly after the penalty kick, an LCCC player received a red card and the Golden Eagles played a man short for the duration of the game, but that didn't stop the Golden Eagles' attack. LCCC’s Alfonso Perea beat the Cardinals defense and shot the ball at the goal. The ball hit the top cross bar, bounced in and out of the goal. Officials did now award the goal. In the final minutes of the game, LCCC was called for a foul in the penalty box and North Idaho College was awarded a penalty kick. Golden Eagle goalie Cameron Clark blocked the shot. A rebound shot attempt was made by an NIC player, but Clark was able to make the save. Cameron Clark and the Golden Eagle defense are credited for their seventh shutout of the season.Box Score

LCCC wouldn’t score again until the second half when Hunter Britegam crossed the ball to Landon Horst who dribbled past a defender and scored in the 62nd minute. In the 82nd minute of play, Chris Nieters dribbled the ball two thirds of the field, and as he drew the the attention of the Griffins defenders, he found Gleydson Neri who scored the final goal of the game.
