Laramie County Community College has received reaffirmation of its accreditation
by the Higher Learning Commission, the organization that conducts regional accreditation for the college and other institutions of higher education in Wyoming.
LCCC participates in the commission’s Academic Quality Improvement Program (AQIP), a process that is focused on continuous quality improvement. LCCC President Joe Schaffer says with this reaffirmation of accreditation, the school’s efforts of continuous improvement will continue and are ongoing in nature.
“AQIP is the tool that we, as an institution, and the Higher Learning Commission use to evaluate how well the college’s model of continuous quality improvement is functioning,” Schaffer says. “Although we have work to do in many regards, the reaffirmation of our accreditation through AQIP is a positive indication of the efforts LCCC is making to improve quality in all aspects of our organization.
Earlier in 2012, LCCC submitted its Systems Portfolio, a document that provides an overview of the college; and by outlining the college’s systems and status for addressing the commission’s accreditation criteria, which range from helping students learn to leadership and communication. Throughout all the processes, there is continuous measurement of organizational effectiveness. LCCC received feedback on this portfolio, and that feedback was incorporated into the continuous improvement process. Most recently, as part of a “quality checkup,” AQIP peer reviewers visited LCCC in July and met with college administrators, students, faculty and staff, and with members of the Laramie County community.
LCCC’s next reaffirmation review will occur in the 2019-2020 academic year. This process will continue to examine the ongoing continuous improvement processes on campus. In addition, the college must have several action projects active. Those action projects are reviewed every year in August or September. The college also must submit updated Systems Portfolios in November 2014, and November 2018. The next Quality Checkup from peer reviewers will occur in early 2019, when the college begins its reaccreditation process again.
