The Laramie County Community College men’s soccer team
got off to the start it was looking for against North Idaho College on Sept. 8 with an early 2-0 lead.
The Cardinals of North Idaho came into match as a team receiving votes for the NJCAA polls, but it was the Golden Eagles who finished with the 3-2 victory.
Tyler Mangel gave the Golden Eagles the lead in the 13th minute on a shot from about 35 yards out. Domey Espinoza made it 2-0 in the 25th minute on a header from a Mangel cross. Tides turned in the second half as North Idaho began to pressure and closed the gap on a converted penalty kick by Christian Botuli in the 56th minute. Shane Stanley knotted things up in 62th minute for the Cardinals as he was able to get onto a loose ball in the box. In the 76th minute, Sophomore Dimitri Sofias knocked in the game-winning goal off a pass from Luis Ramirez.
With the win, the Golden Eagles are now 1-3-1 on the year and look to get their second win when they host Trinidad State Junior College at 1:30 p.m., Sept. 13.
