Band traveled to California for festival.
Laramie County Community College’s jazz ensemble traveled to Stockton, Calif., this past weekend to compete in the Delta College Jazz Festival and came back with some awards and high praise.

The jazz band performed three songs for a panel of judges and scored very well, placing in the top category out of five and placed second overall in the College Division. Three of the LCCC students were recognized individually with a certificate for outstanding musicianship; Veronica Hanway, vocalist; Samantha Medina, trumpet; Gabe Rocha, tenor saxophone.

LCCC’s instrumental music instructor Gary Hall said he was pleased with the way his students prepared and performed.

“The students ran extra sectionals and rehearsals to prepare for this event,” Hall said. “As a result, the students performed with a great deal of confidence.”

The jazz band and all the LCCC music ensembles will be playing in LCCC’s Holiday Gala at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 11 at the Cheyenne Civic Center. The concert is free and open to the public.
