Chrissy Renfro, director of Advising and Career Services at Laramie County Community College, recently wrote an article featured in Academic Advising Today.
The piece was created for NACADA (the National Academic Advising Association), the international professional association for academic advisers with more than 11,000 members.
Renfro, a 13-year employee with LCCC, is a member NACADA’s Emerging Leaders Program. She also serves on the organization’s Publications Advisory Board, is a steering member for the regional association and has given multiple presentations at regional and national conferences.
NACADA created the Emerging Leaders Program in an effort to increase the diversity of representation from within the organization. Emerging leaders are paired with mentors who have a wide span of experience in NACADA and in the profession.
The article came about when Renfro’s mentor suggested that she try developing her skills with the association’s outreach tools. This is the second time her work has been featured in the publication.
“I chose to become more involved in this program because I wanted to advocate for the role of advising at community colleges,” Renfro said. “NACADA has a pretty active membership, but I think we can always do more.”
