Women's soccer team Region IX champions

Golden Eagles move on to district tourney, which will be hosted at LCCC Nov. 5-7.
It was a rematch of last year’s women’s soccer Region IX tournament final, but this year it wasn’t a shootout; it was a shutout. The Laramie County Community College women’s soccer team defeated Western Nebraska 5-0.

It took LCCC six minutes to get on the scoreboard, when Melissa Ledesma scored off an assist by Shino Kunisawa. Amanda Halter scored in the 40th minute, assisted by Natacha Garcia. The halftime score was 2-0. Monica Lubin opened up the scoring in the second half with a goal in the 52nd minute, assisted by Halter. Emi Yamamoto scored an unassisted goal in the 64th minute. Halter finished the scoring drive with a goal in the 80th minute, assisted by Yamamoto.

10th-ranked Golden Eagles shutout Trappers in semifinal

Prior to the final, the team dominated the Northwest College Trappers 8-0 in the Region IX semifinal game Friday in Scottsbluff, Neb.

In the rain-drenched match, the Golden Eagles poured on the goals. LCCC scored four goals in each half. It took Monica Lubin two and a half minutes to score the first goal of the game. Lubin scored again in the fifth minute, both goals assisted by Shino Kunisawa. Kunisawa scored a goal in the 31st minute, assisted by Emi Yamamoto. Yamamoto scored the final goal of the half in the 44th minute, assisted by Christine Mock. Yamamoto scored the first goal of the second half in the 53rd minute, assisted by Lubin. In the 66th minute, Amanda Halter scored, assisted by Yamamoto. Yamamoto scored again in the 76th minute, assisted by Melissa Ledesma. The final goal of the match was scored by Corina Powell in the 85th minute, assisted by Yamamoto.
