Women's soccer team loses in a shootout in district finals

The 13th-ranked Golden Eagles finished the season with an overall record of 14-5-2.

The Laramie County Community College Golden Eagles women’s soccer team tied with Butler Community College in the District B Finals in Hutchinson, Kan., but lost 4-3 in the shootout.

Golden Eagle Zahimara Fantauzzi scored the lone goal of the first half and was assisted by Shino Kunisawa. The Grizzlies tied the game in the 51st minute and then took the lead with another goal in the 65th minute. The Golden Eagles continued to battle and in the 75th minute had their opportunity after BCC was called for a foul in the penalty box. LCCC’s Kunisawa shot the penalty kick past the Grizzlies keeper to tie the game. The score remained at 2-2 through the remainder of regulation and two overtime periods.
 
The game then went to a shootout where each team took five penalty shots to determine the winner. The Golden Eagles lost the shootout 4-3.

The 13th-ranked Golden Eagles finished the season with an overall record of 15-5-2.
