On Oct. 10, the sixth-ranked Laramie County Community College Golden Eagles women’s soccer team lost 2-1 in overtime to the second-ranked Polk State College Vikings in Winter Haven, Fla.
LCCC’s Michaela Boyd scored the first goal of the match in the third minute of the game. The Vikings would answer with a goal of their own in the 25th minute and then both teams struggled to score for the rest of the match. Regulation ended in a 1-1 tie and the game went to overtime. The Vikings netted a goal in the eighth minute of overtime for the win. LCCC had 12 shots on goal compared to PSC’s six.
The next day LCCC was able to bounce back in Florida and get a win against Southwestern Illinois College, 3-0. The Golden Eagles’ goals came from Emi Yamamoto, Michaela Boyd and Melissa Ledesma. Goal keeper Emily Michna and the Golden Eagles defense posted their seventh shutout of the season.
The Golden Eagles finish the regular season with a 12-2-2 overall record and a 3-0-1 Region IX record. LCCC will host the Region IX soccer tournament on Oct. 23 and 24. Since LCCC won the Region IX regular season; they will automatically be in the championship game on Oct. 24 and will face the winner of the Western Wyoming Community College and Western Nebraska Community College game on Oct. 23.
