The North Platte Community College Knights came into Laramie County Community College’s gym on Wednesday night with a perfect record. They left with their first loss of the season.
The No. 3 Knights didn’t fall easily, though. The Eagles led 45-33 going into the half, but North Platte got the momentum back on its side. Strong shooting from the field – and from the three-point-line – by the Eagles preserved the win for LCCC. The Eagles shot nearly 53 percent from the field, 50 percent from the arc, and just under 70 percent from the free-throw line. The Knights were only 48 percent from the field and 24 percent from the three-point line, but they were 82 percent from the charity stripe.
Deshon Portley led the Golden Eagles in scoring with 26 points – including three three-pointers. Kamari Robinson and Spencer Svejcar each had six rebounds for the Eagles, and Portley dished out five assists.
Ethan Montalvo had a game-high 28 points for the Knights.
With the victory, the Golden Eagles improve to 14-6 overall and 5-2 in the south sub region, while the Knights fall to 14-1 overall and 6-1 in region play. The Eagles hope to keep the momentum from this upset when they host McCook on Saturday, Jan. 18, at 4 p.m. in the LCCC gym.
