Men's soccer team grabs two victories

Golden Eagles defeat Northwest and Sheridan College.

On a chilly and wet day in Cheyenne, the Laramie County Community College men's soccer team battled with the Trappers of Northwest College and held on for a 3-2 victory.

Domey Espinoza got things started for the Golden Eagles in the fifth minute as he got on the end of a long ball played by Henry Soto. Northwest College answered back in the 25th minute when Matt Lowndes headed home the ball off a corner kick. Just before half, the Golden Eagles increased the pressure, and a Cory Center cross found its way to Willy Salamanca, who put the shot away and regained the lead for the Golden Eagles in the 44th minute.
Five minutes into the second half, the Golden Eagles found the net again when Fernando Perez increased the lead in the 50th minute. The Trappers answered once again off a corner kick in the 81st minute when Marcus Couldridge headed in the cross. In the end, the Golden Eagles held on and secured the win.

Center lifts Golden Eagles over Sheridan
The Golden Eagles took the field against Sheridan College on Saturday, Sept. 28, and held on for a 1-0 victory.
Scoreless in the first half, the Golden Eagles applied the pressure with eight shots in the first half but were unable to get a goal. It took some time, but the Golden Eagles were finally able to break through in the 60th minute when Cory Center finished a ball crossed by Willy Salamanca.

Taylor Ruff was in the net for the Golden Eagles and was credited for the shutout. Ruff and the Golden Eagle defense kept Sheridan in check, only giving up three shots all game.

With the wins, the Golden Eagles improve to 8-3-1 on the year and 7-0 in region IX. Up next, the Golden Eagles hit the road to La Junta, Colo., for a matchup with Otero Junior College.
