The Laramie County Community College women’s soccer team has qualified for the NJCAA National Tournament by winning the Region IX/District C Tournament. The Golden Eagles got things started by defeating Northwest College 1-0 in the semi-finals on Nov. 1.
The Golden Eagles had to battle the wind against Northwest in the first half and had some chances early on but were just not able to find the net. LCCC had seven shots in the first half and held Northwest College to just three, but things were scoreless going into halftime.
The Golden Eagles finally broke the deadlock in the 68th minute when freshman Yuko Shinomiya took a free kick from about 20 yards out and it bounced through several players to find the back of the net. The backline for the Golden Eagles did the rest and kept Northwest quiet for a 1-0 victory. Freshman goalkeeper Jessie Bradley was credited with the shutout.

Golden Eagles win Region IX/District C
In the second game of the tournament, the Golden Eagles were looking to get revenge on the Otero Junior College Rattlers, as the Rattlers had beaten the Eagles earlier in the year. This was a matchup of the No. 1-seed Golden Eagles and the No.2-seed Rattlers.
The first half was scoreless with the Golden Eagles firing four shots in the half compared, to two by Otero, but there were no real dangerous opportunities from either team in the opening 45 minutes. Things picked up in the second half as the game got more physical. The physicality led to a penalty kick in the 60th minute in favor of the Golden Eagles as sophomore Francesca Ali was taken down in the box by the goalkeeper. Sophomore Sayit Mejia-Bello converted the penalty kick, giving her 11 goals on the year.
The Golden Eagles held strong as Otero looked to push forward to try and tie things up. Freshman goal keeper Jessie Bradley only had to make one save in the second half and recorded the shutout, giving her nine on the year. The Golden Eagles and Rattlers each had six shots on goal.
The Golden Eagles will now head to Melbourne, Fla., for the NJCAA National Tournament that takes place Nov. 17-23. It is unsure as to what days or what seed the Golden Eagles will be. As soon as the tournament schedule is released, that information will be posted at lccc.wy.edu.
