Men's soccer teams splits weekend games

Golden Eagles beat Iowa Western in OT, lose to North Idaho.

The Laramie County Community College men’s soccer team hosted Iowa Western Community College on Oct. 1. The Golden Eagles won 3-2 in overtime to give IWCC their second loss of the season.

The Golden Eagles scored in the 10th minute by Marcelo Souza heading in a cross from Jorge Arenas. Golden Eagles captain Casey Allen added another goal off a penalty kick in the 33rd minute. IWCC quickly got on the score board in the 35th minute of play. A minute before halftime, IWCC scored the tying goal. In the second half, both teams tried to take control, but neither team could score a goal. In the overtime, Casey Allen stole the ball away from an IWCC defender and dribbled to goal. He drew out the IWCC goalie and then passed the ball to an oncoming Tyler Arbuckle who buried his shot for the game-winning goal.

The men’s soccer team also hosted the North Idaho College Cardinals on Oct. 3 and lost 2-1 in a tight game.

Both teams struggled to gain control in the first half of the game and left the scoreboard blank at halftime. In the second half, LCCC’s Guilherme Andrade scored in the 64th minute, assisted by Landon Horst. The Cardinals quickly struck back in the 65th minute to tie the game 1-1. In the last few minutes of the game, LCCC’s goalie Colby Keller was called for a foul in the penalty box. The Cardinals converted the penalty kick to take the lead and the win.

The men’s soccer team (8-6-2) will travel to Salt Lake City, Utah, to take on the Westminster University junior varsity team at 11 a.m. Oct. 9.
