Golden Eagles fall to Iowa Wester but defeat Butler

The Laramie County Community College women’s soccer team opened the season No. 7 in the NJCAA polls. The Golden Eagles took on No. 3 Iowa Western Community College on Aug. 24 in El Dorado, Kan., home of Butler Community College but lost 2-0. With temperatures in the mid 90s (and adding about another 10 degrees on the field turf), it made things difficult early on for the Golden Eagles.

Iowa Western was able to capitalize on the Golden Eagles early, scoring two first-half goals that proved to be enough: one in the 19th minute from Kristine Reynolds on a header off a cross by Celia Jimenez and another in the 32nd minute from Kasandra Anderson on a header off a corner kick by Jimenez.

LCCC women overtake No. 5 Butler Community College

The Golden Eagles had to quickly shake off the defeat against Iowa Western as they were matched up with another tough task, facing No. 5 Butler Community College on Aug. 25. The Golden Eagles got off to great start thanks to a change in formation that created more opportunities going to goal and came away with a 3-1 victory.

The Golden Eagles got two first-half goals from Taylor Hockley in the 35th minute and Sayit Mejia Bello in the 39th minute. Butler responded in the second half on a goal by Madison Decker in the 59th minute assisted by Alyssia Salinas. Sierra Kuno sealed the game for the Golden Eagles with a goal in the 74th minute on an assist from Taylor Hockley.

Next up for the Golden Eagles is a trip to Tyler, Texas, where they will play No. 4 Tyler Junior College on Saturday, Aug. 31, and No. 13 Navarro Community College Sunday, Sept. 1.
