LCCC volleyball coach moves up to the next level

Monday, January 14, 2013
Darren Buckner is heading to Eastern Washington University.

Like many of his student-athletes, Laramie County Community College head volleyball coach Darren Buckner is moving up to the next level. He has been named an associate head volleyball coach at Eastern Washington University in Cheney, Wash. Eastern Washington University is an NCAA Division I volleyball program.
“We’re very sad to see Darren go, but we wish him the best,” says LCCC Athletic Director Jason Ficca. “One of the goals of any coach is to leave the program in better shape than when you found it. Darren certainly did that for LCCC. He led us to back-to-back winning seasons for the first time in recent memory while also building on an already outstanding academic record. The future of LCCC volleyball looks very good thanks in large part to Darren’s efforts over the past two years.”
In his two seasons at LCCC, Buckner led the Eagles to a combined 35-27 record.
“I need to thank Jason (Ficca) and LCCC for the personal and professional development they’ve helped me attain,” Buckner says. “It was hard for me to leave, but this is a big opportunity for me.”
A national search for a new head volleyball coach will begin immediately.
