Women’s soccer team shuts out Western Nebraska

Thursday, September 09, 2010
Golden Eagles play and win first conference game of season.

The 11th-ranked Laramie County Community College women’s soccer team hosted Western Nebraska Community College on Sept. 8 for their first conference game of the season. The Golden Eagles took the victory in a shutout, 2-0.

It only took 10 minutes for LCCC’s Emi Yamamoto to find the back of the net, off an assist from Cori Mizel. LCCC maintained control of the game, but couldn’t find the right combination on offense to score another goal before the end of the half.

The Golden Eagles came out in the second half with more confidence and were able to put a great amount of pressure on the WNCC defense and goalkeeper. In the 60th minute, Iren Dahan scored the insurance goal, assisted by Brittany DeMartin. Goalkeeper Lauren Pelkey and the Golden Eagles defense only allowed the Cougars three shots for the game.

Box Score
Goals – 1 Emi Yamamoto (LCCC), 1 Iren Dahan (LCCC)

Shots on Goal – LCCC 15, WNCC 3

The women’s soccer team (1-2 overall, 1-0 Region IX) will host Barton Community College on Sept. 12 at noon. All Golden Eagle athletic events are free.
