The Laramie County Community College men’s basketball team
lost in its first game of the Golden Eagle Classic, 78-70, to the New Mexico Junior College Thunderbirds.
LCCC trailed at the end of the first half 40-25, shooting 37 percent from the field and making one of 10 attempts from beyond the arc. In the second half, the Golden Eagles turned up the defense and were able to get something going. LCCC outscored the Thunderbirds 45-38 and got close to taking the lead late in the game, but weren’t able to claim the victory.
Rodrigo Silva led LCCC in scoring with 15 points and also had five blocks. Terrence Dent added 14 points, six assists and four steals.
The Golden Eagles took the victory in the second game of the classic, defeating Garden City Community College, 77-70. Silva led the way with 23 points and six rebounds. Sophomore point guard Bryce Velasquez had 16 points and 11 assists. Terrence Dent added 11 points and had four steals.
The basketball team (2-4 overall) will travel to Garden City, Kan., in a rematch with Garden City Community College at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
