Instructor earns national public service award

Greg Chesser got the Geico Public Service Award for his dedication to fire safety and prevention.
Greg Chesser, an instructor at Laramie County Community College and the assistant fire chief for fire prevention at F.E. Warren Air Force Base, has earned the 2009 Geico Public Service Award for Fire Prevention and Safety.
The award recognizes Chesser’s distinguished career in the Air Force Fire and Emergency Services, his 25 years in fire protection and his dedication to providing the highest quality safety and fire prevention services in his community.

Chesser is responsible for ensuring fire safety and education for 9,600 base personnel and their families, and under his watchful eye, the base has experienced less than $2,000 in fire loss within the past three years.

He also provides a significant spark for Fire Prevention Week activities in Laramie County. He logged more than 300 hours planning and conducting fire safety awareness activities and raised more than $1,400 in donations for the annual fire department open house event.
Chesser shares his knowledge with students at Laramie County Community College, where he is an adjunct instructor of FIRE 1700 – Fire Prevention and FIRE 1725 – Fire Protection Systems.
