Get poetic at LCCC in April

Tuesday, April 01, 2014
April is National Poetry Month, and the Laramie County Community College is hosting two events to celebrate the written word and those who create it.
On Wednesday, April 2, Cheyenne native Jason Hardung will hold a poetry reading and book signing. The events takes place at 4 p.m. This event is sponsored in part by the Ludden Library, Campus Activities Board (CAB) and the LCCC English department.

Hardung's work has appeared in a variety of journals and magazines including 3AM, Monkey Bicycle, Evergreen Review and The New York Quarterly. He has two books of poetry out on Epic Rites Press and Lummox Press. In 2013, he was voted Fort Collins’ poet laureate.

“Open Mic: A Celebration of All Poetic Languages” will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30. Participants are encouraged to present original poetry, songs, music, fiction, creative nonfiction, drama and more; they are also welcome to present and perform work written and published by others. The event includes door prize raffles for all attendees, regardless of whether they perform. This event is sponsored by the High Plains Register and the CAB.

Both events are free and open to the public and take place in the LCCC Student Lounge.
