Volleyball team opens season 3-1 at Lamar Invitational

Golden Eagles play first home match Sept. 3.
The Laramie County Community College volleyball team opened its 2013 season at Lamar Invitational with three victories and one defeat. The Golden Eagles started with a victory over Colorado Northwestern (25-12, 25-20, 25-15) on the afternoon of Aug. 23. They continued that success later that day with a victory over Cisco College (25-16, 25-16, 25-18). On Aug. 24, the Eagles beat Garden City Community College in the first matchup of the day 3-2. (22-25, 26-24, 23-25, 25-18, 15-7). The Eagles’ final match was against Seward Community College, and they came up short with their lone defeat of the invite (21-25, 22-25, 25-23, 18-25).

Interim head coach Cindy Henning took positives from the invite. “As a team, we played consistent throughout the weekend,” she said. “Going into the opening weekend, we felt that staying focused mentally was going to be key for us in Lamar.”

LCCC finished opening weekend with a 3-1 record.

Next up for the Golden Eagles is their home opener on Sept. 3 as they host Northeastern Junior College at the LCCC Gymnasium.
