Battling through injuries and illness, the Laramie County Community College men's basketball team
was able to hold off the Lancers of Eastern Wyoming on Dec. 7 at the LCCC gymnasium for a 90-79 victory. With the win, the Golden Eagles have improved to 8-3 on the year and 3-1 in the south subregion.
Sophomore Kendyl Grover got in a groove early on and controlled the paint for the Golden Eagles. Grover got some good looks at the basket and scored all of his 13 points in the first half. Despite playing on a hurt ankle, he was able to make a big presence for the Golden Eagles. The Golden Eagles led at the half 44-36.
The Lancers looked to narrow the gap and got within four points, but an 8-0 run by the Golden Eagles prevented the Lancers from getting any closer. The Golden Eagles pushed the lead up to as high as 19, but Jonathan Doss, who had 30 points and nine rebounds for the Lancers, would not go away that easy. Sophomore Deshon Portley, who had a team-high 22 points, was battling an illness but pushed through to help the Golden Eagles to their eighth victory of the year.
Up next, the Golden Eagles will go to Powell, Wyo., for the Northwest Classic, where they will take on Northwest College and Miles Community College on Dec. 13 and 14 at Northwest College.
