Men’s soccer team tallies a win and a tie on the road

Monday, October 01, 2012
One win, one tie for the Golden Eagles.

The 20th ranked Golden Eagles men's soccer team stayed unbeaten on the road defeating Trinidad State Junior College Trojans 3-1 on Sept. 28 in Trinidad, Colo., and tying with Otero Junior College 1-1.

The Trojans hosted the Eagles on a rough and soggy field. It took LCCC a while to get a feel for the game, but in the 27th minute LCCC’s Raul Gonzalez passed a long ball to Gleydson Neri, who scored the first goal of the match. TSJC’s Adrian Guttierrez answered back with a tying goal in the 38th minute. The score would remain tied for the first half.

In the second half, the Eagles made some changes to their offense. In the 58th minute, Gleydson Neri was fouled in the Trojans’ penalty box and was awarded a penalty kick. Dino Soto placed the penalty kick pass the TSJC goalie. In the 86th minute, Golden Eagle Dimitri Sofias passed the ball to Dewey Rodgers, who blasted the ball into the upper corner of the goal for the final goal of the game.

The 20th ranked Golden Eagles then traveled to La Junta, Colo., on Sept. 29 to play the 15th ranked Otero Junior College Rattlers where the Eagles tied the Rattlers 1-1.

Both teams played a high energy game for 110 minutes, which included two overtimes. The Golden Eagles would get on the scoreboard first in the 35th minute as Peterson Neri crossed the ball to Dimitri Sofias for a goal. The Eagles did a good job of keeping possession and keeping the Rattlers out of the goal area, but in the 70th minute one of the LCCC defenders was called for a hold near the top of the penalty area. OJS’s John Mursean took the free kick and scored the tying goal. Neither team could break the tie for the remainder of regulation and two overtime periods.
