Basketball team falls to Trinidad in triple OT

Golden Eagles suffer defeat in first sub-region conference game of the season.

The LCCC men's basketball team took the Trojans of Trinidad State Junior College into triple overtime before suffering a 114-115 defeat in their first sub-region conference game of the season on Dec. 4.

The Eagles went into the first half with a 41-37 lead. In the second half, the Trojans kept chipping away at the Golden Eagles to force the game into overtime. Both teams scored 10 points in the period to force a second overtime. In the second overtime, neither team could really pull away and seven points apiece were scored to push the game into a third overtime. In the third overtime LCCC was ahead 114 to 113. The Trojans had possession with nine seconds to play. TSJC’s Devonte Malcolm pulled up to take a 3-point shot with 1.4 seconds left and was fouled by the Golden Eagles and sent to the line for three free throws. Malcolm made two of the three shots to steal the win.

The Golden Eagles (8-4 overall, 0-1 south sub region) will travel to Torrington, Wyo., to face off with the Eastern Wyoming College Lancers (7-4 overall, 2-0 south sub region) on Dec. 6 at 7:30 p.m.
