Mental health and suicide prevention are serious issues, but discussions about them don’t have to be confined to somber settings. In order to shed more light on the subjects and gain the attention of more people, the members of the Active Minds
organization at Laramie County Community College are hosting a fun event including information tables, guest speakers, and a one-mile fun run through mud and over obstacles.
On-site registration begins at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 21, at the soccer field on the west end of the LCCC campus. After registering, participants can learn more about mental health and suicide prevention at various information tables. From 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., guest speakers BJ Ayers from Grace for 2 Brothers, James Ednie of Rock for Life Suicide Crisis Intervention, and social worker Marti Salas from the Cheyenne Veterans Hospital will give their inspirational presentations. In case of inclement weather, these events will take place in the Multipurpose Room in the Physical Education Building.
Following the balloon release at 1:30 p.m., runners will move to the starting lines for the 5K dry run and the 1-mile mud run. 5K runners will have the option of finishing their runs on the mud course or staying on dry ground.
Registration is $15 for individual runners and $50 for teams of five runners. The first 100 individual runners will receive a free event T-shirt.
To register in advance, call Jeanne Wickard at 307.778.1236. Registration fees can be paid with a credit card when registering in advance, or with cash or check at the event. Each participant must complete a release form at the registration table on the day of the event.
