Golden Eagles get close despite missing players due to injuries.
The Laramie County Community College men’s basketball team lost to Casper College 73-70 on Wednesday in Casper.
Despite playing with a depleted lineup, the Golden Eagles nearly pulled off the upset. The Eagles played their second consecutive game without second-leading scorer Travis Shepherd. Starting forward Domonique Smith also sat out due to injury. Backup center Dawton Queiroz was limited to only three minutes of play due to an ailing back. In spite of the injuries the Eagles jumped out to an early 13-7 lead on the back of a pair of Terrance Dent 3-pointers. The Thunderbirds stormed back and took a 17-16 lead midway through the opening half, but Casper led 40-35 at intermission. The second half remained a close contest. However, the Eagles were unable to overcome the Thunderbirds down the stretch.

Terrance Dent led the Eagles with 23 points including 6-14 from 3-point range. Rodrigo Silva was a force on the inside, scoring 17 points and grabbing a career high 20 rebounds. Laramie County out rebounded Casper 45-38, but the teams scored an equal number of field goals in the game. The difference came at the free-throw line, where the Thunderbirds outscored the Eagles 12-9.
