Flores’ lone goal is just enough
One of the most anticipated matchups in Region IX men’s soccer occurred Sept. 14 when Laramie County Community College
hosted Otero Junior College. This match was scheduled to be played on campus but was moved to Cheyenne South High School stadium due of the amount of water on the field at LCCC. The Golden Eagles defeated the Rattlers 1-0.
It took some time for both teams to settle in and get into rhythm on the turf of South High’s stadium, which made the ball travel a lot quicker. It was a scoreless game until the 76th minute when LCCC’s Dennis Vivar-Diaz was dragged down. Vivar-Diaz quickly got up and played a fast restart to Brandon Flores, who took a touch and slotted the ball away on the far post for the lone goal of the game.
Daniel Ainsworth came up big in the net for the Golden Eagles. Late in the game, Ainsworth held on to some great strikes from the Rattlers. Ainsworth finished with five saves, three of which came in the closing minutes of the game.

Golden Eagles coast to 3-0 victory
The Golden Eagles played their second game of the weekend defeating Trinidad State Junior College 3-0 at Cheyenne South High School on Sept. 15. This game was rescheduled from Friday, Sept. 13, due to the rain.
LCCC started slow and allowed Trinidad to threaten early with a couple chances. With about 15 minutes remaining in the first half, the Golden Eagles began to take control of the game and broke through in the 40th minute when Brandon Flores was able to lay a ball off for Dennis Vivar-Diaz at the top of the 18 yard box, which resulted in the first goal.
With just a 1-0 lead at the half, the Golden Eagles came out of the second half with some high intensity and pressure and were able to capitalize in the 50th minute when Vivar-Diaz flicked a header over to Willy Salamanca, who tucked the ball away at the far post. Flores sealed the victory for LCCC when he struck a shot on a rope from about 40 yards out in the 84th minute. LCCC’s goalie, Daniel Ainsworth, picked up his second clean sheet of the year.
With that victory, the Golden Eagles are 3-3-1 on the year and 2-0 in Region IX. Up next for the Golden Eagles is a home match with Western Wyoming Community College at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 18 at LCCC.
