Taking advantage of your opportunities was something head coach Vince Gibson preached to his men’s soccer team
the past couple of games, and it proved to work out in the Golden Eagles’ 6-0 victory over Western Nebraska Community College on Sept. 21.
Laramie County Community College traveled to Scottsbluff and jumped out early on the Cougars as Fernando Perez struck a shot from about 27 yards out off a quick restart from Dimitri Sofias in the second minute. Domey Espinoza would add another goal before halftime to give the Golden Eagles a 2-0 halftime lead.
A strong first half continued in the second half for the Golden Eagles, as they did not slow down on the scoring column. Golden Eagles would score three goals in a span of six minutes. Cory Center got it started in the 56th minute, then Brandon Flores finished one in the 59th minute and another in the 62nd. Sofias added the final goal of the game in the 73rd minute off an assist from Jesse Molina.
With the win, the Golden Eagles improve to 5-3-1 on the year and 4-0 in Region IX. Up next, the Golden Eagles will be at home against Northeastern Junior College at 3 p.m. This game was scheduled to be played in Sterling as a makeup game but has now been moved to Cheyenne.
