Two victories place men's hoops team in regional semifinals

Golden Eagles must get past Western Wyoming to make it to the finals.
 
The Laramie County Community College men's basketball team won its first two games in the Region IX Tournament in Norfolk, Neb. The Golden Eagles (20-12) take the court again at 7 tonight to play Western Wyoming Community College (23-10) for a chance at the Region IX finals.

The Golden Eagles beat the Buccaneers of Dawson Community College (14-13) 87-60 in the first round to advance to the quarterfinals. The Golden Eagles were led by Travis Shepherd with 22 points, Bryse Velasquez with 15 points and nine assists, Terrance Dent with 13 points, Allan Saint-Gelais with 11 points and Rodrigo Silva with 10 points and 15 rebounds.

In the quarterfinals, the Golden Eagles squared off with Central Wyoming College (17-15). The Eagles took a commanding lead into the half with 41-27 advantage. In the second half, the Rustlers came charging back, and with two minutes to play cut the lead to 71-69. The Eagles were able to ride out the win with a 78-73 final and advance to the semifinals. The Golden Eagles were led by Allan Saint-Gelais with 19 points, Travis Shepherd with 17 points, Rodrigo Silva with 17 points and 13 rebounds, Terrance Dent with 14 points and Bryse Velasquez with 11 points.
On the other side of the bracket, Casper College (23-9) battles Sheridan College (23-9) at 5 tonight. The championship game of the Region IX Tournament takes place at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
