Three men’s soccer players signed to play at the next level

Monday, April 07, 2014
Three LCCC men’s soccer sophomores have signed letters of intent with four-year programs to continue their education and their playing careers.

Wyatt Witty and Fernando Perez have signed with Montana State University-Billings, and Taylor Ruff has signed with Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah.

All three are graduating this May with associate degrees in general studies.

Witty, a sophomore outside midfielder from Buffalo, Wyo., was captain for the team this past season and helped guide the Golden Eagles to a 15-6-1 record. At LCCC, he scored three goals and had six assists.

“It’s the right fit for me,” said Witty. “I love the area, my sister went to school there, I have family in the area. To continue playing there is fantastic.”

Perez, a sophomore center midfielder from Greeley, Colo., is a second team All-Region IX player who co-captained the Golden Eagles with Witty. During his LCCC career, Perez scored 10 goals and gave out four assists.

“It’s going to be great to continue playing with Wyatt for another two years,” Perez said.

Witty will major in biology at MSU-Billings. Perez will major in health and human performance at the school, which is an NCAA Division 2 program.

Ruff, a sophomore goalkeeper from West Jordan, Utah, compiled 50 saves and scored one goal in his Golden Eagle career. He also was an NJCAA Academic All-American in 2012.

“The opportunity to go to school close to home and have my parents and friends get to watch me play is huge,” said Ruff.

He will now major in international business. The program works closely with the professional soccer team Real Salt Lake with internships and more for students.

The Westminster College Griffins are affiliated with the NAIA in athletics.
