Women’s soccer splits first weekend of season

Golden Eagles beat Iowa Western CC, lose to Butler CC.

The Laramie County Community College women’s soccer team traveled to El Dorado, Kan., on August 27 and 28 to play in the Butler Community College soccer tournament. The 5th-ranked Golden Eagles beat 3rd-ranked Iowa Western Community College 4-0 in the first match.

The Golden Eagles scored the only goal of the first half in the 23rd minute, when Shino Kunisawa passed the ball to an open Natacha Garcia. The Reivers couldn’t hold off the Golden Eagles attack in the second half. The Golden Eagles scored three more goals. The scoring drive was started in the 55th minute by Monica Lubin, assisted by Zahimara Fantauzzi. Garcia’s second goal came in the 64 minute, assisted by Kunisawa. The final goal was in the 81st minute unassisted by Shayleen Crank.

The fifth-ranked Golden Eagles faced off with 11th-ranked Butler Community College on Saturday and lost 1-0. Even though the Eagles kept possession for most of the game, they couldn’t convert any chances for a goal. Grizzly Mari Ruvalcaba scored the lone goal of the match in the 60th minute, assisted by Carla Daniels.
