It took the sixth-ranked Laramie County Community College Golden Eagles women’s soccer team 110 minutes and a shootout to win the Region IX championship 4-3 against the Western Nebraska Community College Cougars on Oct. 24 at LCCC.
The game ended in a goose egg tie after the second overtime, which led to the penalty kick shootout to decide the victor. LCCC shootout goal scorers were Kelly Parkhurst, Kelsey Gapter, Natal and Emi Yamamoto. Goalkeeper Emily Michna had two saves in the game and blocked two penalty kicks in the shootout.
During regulation play and the two overtimes, the Golden Eagles had twelve shots and nine corner kicks to WNCC five shots and two corner kicks.
The Golden Eagles (13-2-2 overall, 4-0-1 in Region IX) will travel to Kansas City, Kan., for the district tournament that will take place Nov. 7-8.
