The Golden Eagles volleyball team
was on the road this weekend as they went 1-2 in the Northeastern Junior College Invitational in Sterling, Colo. Coming off a great victory at home earlier in the week, Laramie County Community College was playing well entering the invite.
The first match of the Invite was against undefeated Otero Junior College. LCCC handed the Rattlers their first loss in a tough five-game match. The Golden Eagles got off to the start they needed, taking the first game 25-21. Otero bounced back and took the second and third games 21-25. The Golden Eagles regrouped and took the fourth game 25-17 and fought hard in the fifth set to get the much deserved 15-11 victory.
The LCCC ladies faced nationally ranked No. 4 Iowa Western Community College in their second match of the invite. This was a difficult match up for the Golden Eagles, and Iowa Western took the match in three sets: 15-25, 19-25, and 15-25.
The competition continued to increase as LCCC took on the No. 2 nationally ranked team in the nation in the final match of the Invite, Western Nebraska Community College. Western Nebraska jumped out early and took the first game, but the Golden Eagles recovered and took the second game. However the Cougars closed out the Eagles in games three and four.
This takes the Golden Eagles to 5-8 on the year. They look to get back on track when they host Casper College at 7 p.m. Sept. 17 in the LCCC Gym.
