This course is designed to give students an introduction to brewing science. Over the course of eight sessions, the following topics will be covered; history of brewing, raw ingredients (water/yeast/barley/hops), brew house equipment/technology, cleaning/sanitation, home brewing, fermentation, recipe development, sensory analysis, beer styles, beer geography, the current state of craft beer and brewing procedures. This course will alternate between a lecture format and hands-on experiences held at Altitude Chophouse and Brewery (sensory/ingredient analysis and brewing). While the majority of this class will focus in brewing as practiced in a commercial setting, the content will certainly be applicable to students interested in home brewing. As a culminating experience, students will collaborate to develop an original recipe to be brewed at Altitude Chophouse and Brewery for release to the public.

Classes will meet at the Laramie Plains Civic Center Campus every other week, and rotate between the Altitude Chophouse and Brewery. The first class will be held on campus.
